I had never heard about this idea of coffee with cheese until one of my Swedish friends mentioned it to me. As a cheese lover and a coffee lover, I thought I would really like to give it a try!
Kaffeost actually means `coffee and cheese` and although this unique combination sounds a little strange for some, in the Scandinavian peninsula there is a traditional recipe loved by many.The recipe is originally from Lapponia, in Sweden, but it is also found in Finland.
The cheese used for this coffee is Leipäjuusto, which is cut into small cubes and added to a cup of black coffee.The Scandinavian countries have a close relationship with coffee. Finland and Sweden are on the list of the top 10 countries consuming more coffee per capita, in fact the average Finnish person consumes around 12kg of coffee per year.
